Carlos Ruiz in danger of missing qualifiers against United States

Guatemala's most-capped player and all-time leading scorer may not play against the United States in March after receiving a long sanction.

Guatemala's all-time leading scorer Carlos Ruiz is in danger of missing March's World Cup qualifiers against the United States because of a suspension.

The disciplinary body of Guatemala's top league, where Ruiz plays with Municipal, announced Friday that Ruiz will be suspended six months because of his actions against a referee in a match earlier this week. Municipal is appealing the suspension to Guatemalan federation Fedefut's disciplinary body. If the ban is not overturned, it reportedly would keep him out of the national team and domestic soccer, though he would be able to play club soccer outside his native Guatemala.
