SMU scores just 49 points, shoots 31.8 percent from field ... so why was coach Tim Jankovich so proud of Mustangs?

UNIVERSITY PARK -- After playing three of the last four games on the road, SMU returned to the comfortable surroundings of Moody Coliseum.

So did the shooting woes that contributed to consecutive losses.

But the Mustangs managed to recover down the stretch to pull out a 49-43 victory over CSU Bakersfield.

In improving to 5-3, the Mustangs shot only 31.8 percent, including 27.8 in the second half, and were outrebounded, 36-34.

For the Mustangs to win, they had to beat the Roadrunners at their specialty, defense. SMU limited CSU Bakersfield to 29.8 percent shooting. The Roadrunners dropped to 5-4.
