3 Safeties The Seahawks Could Target To Replace Kam Chancellor

Legion of Boom member Kam Chancellor is still AWOL as he looks for a restructured contract in the mold of fellow Boom member Richard Sherman. The Seattle Seahawks aren't budging in negotiations with their strong safety which has led to a protracted holdout with more questions than answers being offered.

We don't believe (or we hope) that this will end in a dissolution of the relationship between Chancellor and the team. However, if things go completely south one way or the other, here are 3 potential out-of-house replacement options for the three-time Pro Bowler.

Bernard Pollard -- free agent

Pollard is best known for the low hit which ends Tom Brady's season in Week 1 of the 2008 season. His career may be drawing to a close after a ruptured Achilles tendon ended his second (and last) season with the Tennessee Titans prematurely last October. However, while the nine-year veteran has a reputation as a stirrer of...poop, he's also just a year removed from a 99-tackle season and appears hungry to latch on with an actual contender during his final NFL hurrah.

"I don't have that much time left. And for the time I do have left, I want to go out with a bang," Pollard told The Tennessean.

Stevie Brown -- free agent

Cut by the Texans this preseason, the former 7th-round draft pick (2010) would be a cost-effective stopgap option if the Seahawks decide that Dion Bailey can't handle the load himself. Brown is three years removed from a banner 76-tackle, eight-interception season with the Giants. He hasn't come close to matching those totals since, but he's still 28 years old and could thrive as a primary or secondary option in the Legion of Boom.

Vonn Bell -- Ohio State Buckeyes

Let's say this holdout stretches deep into the season and an untenable rift develops between Chancellor and the front office. If so, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for the Seahawks to target an immediate replacement for him in next year's draft. Bell is the best of the strong safety bunch for next year's draft class -- a proven winner, a former five-star recruit and a speed demon who sticks like glue against the pass and has improved dramatically pinching in against the run.
