Aoki would likely need to pass a physical after missing a month with the Giants in midseason with a leg fracture and then closing out the year on the disabled list due to a concussion that sidelined him another four weeks.
Dipoto has already acquired center fielder Leonys Martin in a trade with Texas and re-signed free agent Franklin Gutierrez to platoon with Seth Smith in left field, but the GM has said he's looking to add a right fielder to the mix so Nelson Cruz can also spend time at DH.
