Earlier this morning, the Mariners announced the coaching staff for the 2021 season.
Of the nine coaches on the staff, eight are returning from 2020. The lone *newcomer* is Trent Blank, who will immediately begin his tenure as the Bullpen Coach and Director of Pitching Strategy for Seattle.
The asterisks above are to clarify that this will actually be Blank’s second season with the Mariners, as he was the Acting Bullpen Coach in 2020, as several Mariners coaches were required to work from home in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Coaches Perry Hill, Tim Laker and Brian De Lunas worked remotely for the 2020 campaign, and were supplemented respectively by Joe Thurston, Hugh Quattlebaum and Blank.
