Chris Gwynn resigns after four years as Mariners' director of player development

The Seattle Mariners' front office continued its makeover Thursday when Chris Gwynn, the director of player development, resigned from his post after four seasons.

Gwynn was the latest departure since Jerry Dipoto was hired Sept. 28 as the organization's new general manager and vice president of baseball operations.

Since taking over, Dipoto has chosen not to renew the contracts of Joe McIlvaine (special assistant to the GM), Ted Simmons (senior advisor to the GM), Pete Vuckovich (special assistant to the GM), Duane Shaffer (major-league scout) and Joe Nigro (major-league scout).
