Smith's wildness in 9th lets Twins slip past Mariners 3-2

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Seattle closer Carson Smith had a few rough outings in a row before entering Saturday's game with a chance to notch a save.

Even after another blown opportunity, Smith's manager still has faith in him.

Kurt Suzuki hit the winning RBI single with two outs in the ninth inning after two wild pitches by Smith let Minnesota tie the score, and the Twins beat the Mariners 3-2 on Saturday night.

"The inexperience showed up tonight. That's the only way you're going to learn," Seattle manager Lloyd McClendon said of his 25-year-old rookie closer.
