SEATTLE -- The Mariners signed Nelson Cruz to provide power in the middle of the lineup. If there was any doubt Cruz could live up to those expectations -- which there shouldn't have been -- the slugger answered them in his first two at-bats Sunday afternoon.
Cruz hit home runs in his first two trips to the plate against Texas Rangers pitcher Ross Detwiler. His second, a towering shot to left in the third, gave him 13 RBIs this season.
It is the second time this season Cruz, who leads the Majors in home runs, has hit two in one game.
