Women's Basketball Drops Heartbreaker to San Diego

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – In a back-and-forth affair, Santa Clara women's basketball lost a heartbreaker to San Diego 57-56 Thursday night in Leavey despite a big night from reigning West Coast Conference Player of the Week Lori Parkinson.

Needing a 3-pointer to force overtime, the Broncos (8-8, 3-2 WCC) inbounded from the sideline with 1.4 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. Parkinson got the pass and took two dribbles before putting up a shot that went in but her toe was over the line making it a 2-pointer.

"Tonight was another one-possession conference game against a really good, physical team that came in here and played well," Santa Clara head coach Bill Carr said.
