Brent Burns, Joe Thornton added to Canada's World Cup roster

SAN JOSE -- The Sharks' Joe Thornton and Brent Burns were added Friday to Team Canada's roster for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

The third installment of the tournament, which is sanctioned by the NHL, begins Sept. 17 and will be played at Toronto's Air Canada Centre.Several other Sharks players had already been selected to participate, including Joe Pavelski (Team USA), Marc-Edouard Vlasic (Canada), Joonas Donskoi (Finland), Roman Polak and Tomas Hertl (Czech Republic). Logan Couture, who has an NHL-leading 24 points this postseason, was also in consideration for Team Canada but was not selected.
