SAN FRANCISCO -- Joe Panik makes no claim at being a home run hitter. Neither did Matt Duffy, his pal and former teammate. Last season, when the two contact-oriented infielders put a few in the seats, Panik joked that the competition was on, and came up with a clever name for it.
Duffy might be with the Tampa Bay Rays now, but the Tortoise Race is alive and well.Panik hit a home run in the second inning of the Giants' 13-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Sunday. Mere minutes later in Houston, Duffy hit his first in a Rays uniform.
