It’s been pointed out that the team went ahead and gave Madison Bumgarner all the money to ensure that the pitching phenom will stick around to help the Giants win another World Series. The team has spent $371.5 million in signing additional pitchers, so it only made sense to sweeten the deal for Bumgarner.
