SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - The Giants usually are spring party poopers. Their teams are so set coming to spring training, they rarely offer intriguing competitions for jobs.
This spring will be different.
During a 33-game Cactus League schedule that begins Friday against the Reds, with Madison Bumgarner pitching an inning, the Giants will settle on a fifth starter and an everyday left fielder, with a host of players young and old vying for wide-open bench jobs.
Jarrett Parker and Mac Williamson might enjoy the friendliest competition in the Cactus League.
