Cain finds rhythm in relief outing

SAN FRANCISCO -- While the Giants continued to unravel with Saturday's 6-0 loss to the D-backs, Matt Cain embarked on the task of putting himself together.

Cain launched his bid to rejoin San Francisco's starting rotation by pitching the sixth inning, his second relief appearance in 292 Major League games. He allowed a run on one hit while walking two and striking out two. But Cain's results weren't as important as his method. While edging toward the disabled list last month with right elbow nerve irritation, Cain began throwing from a lower arm angle, which robbed his pitches of lateral and downward movement.
