James Shields, who already has locked down the second spot in the White Sox rotation, yielded three runs on eight hits over his five innings pitched. The right-hander struck out two and walked three.
San Francisco scored all three of its runs in the second inning. Catcher Tim Federowicz singled home a run and Eduardo Nunez doubled home two. The White Sox scored two in the fifth on Geovany Soto's double and Peter Bourjos' RBI groundout.
"I mean, they battled me out there," Shields said.
