Arbitration hearing scheduled for Brandon Belt, Giants

SAN FRANCISCO – The Giants have until Wednesday to agree to terms with Brandon Belt before an arbitration panel would decide the first baseman’s salary for this season.

The arbitration hearing is scheduled for Wednesday in Arizona, according to a source. Belt filed at $7.5 million and the Giants filed at $5.3 million. If the two sides are unable to reach agreement before the hearing, the arbitration panel would pick between one of the two salaries.

The burden for Belt’s agent, then, is to prove that he deserves a dollar more than the $6.4 million midpoint.

Belt and the Giants came close to a hearing two years ago, with the first baseman even making a special trip to Florida for the proceedings.
