Umpire exits game after line drive hits hand

DENVER -- Umpire Paul Nauert left Friday night's Rockies-Giants game after being hit on the right hand by a Brandon Belt seventh-inning line drive.

Nauert was the second-base umpire, positioned to the shortstop side of the infield, when Belt's liner hit him. Belt ended up with a single. The runner at second, Buster Posey, had to stay there by rule because there was no runner at first base at the start of the play.

Nauert received attention from Rockies head athletic trainer Keith Dugger, who checked his hand and thumb, and completed the inning.
