Giants Trade Rumors: Giants express interest in Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon

In this Giants trade rumors and news bulletin, the San Francisco Giants are currently extremely active on the trade market, looking for a stopgap fix in the starting rotation in the wake of Matt Cain's trip to the disabled list.

The Giants' search could lead them to bringing New York Mets veteran Bartolo Colon back to the Bay Area.

Per ESPN New York's Adam Rubin, "citing a source close to Bartolo Colon, ESPNDeportes.com's Marly Rivera reports that the San Francisco Giants have expressed interest in acquiring the 41-year-old right-hander."

Colon's next scheduled start is on Wednesday at Safeco Field against the Seattle Mariners.

With a $9 million price tag for 2014 and a $11 million salary for 2015, Colon's price is reasonable enough. However, with his advanced age, several teams are wondering if his inconsistency this season is a sign that his touch is going away.

After a borderline Cy Young season with the Oakland A's in 2013, Colon has struggled to an 8-8 with a 4.12 ERA in 19 starts, pitching mostly to contact with a K/BB ratio over five. However, he has been solid enough to warrant a look on the Giants' part during their time of need.
