PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. -- Behind a two-under round turned in by freshman Tim Widing, USF's men's golf team sits in seventh place after the first round of the St. Mary's Invitational being held at the Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Pebble Beach.
The Dons posted a first round team score of 297 (+13) and are seven strokes behind co-leaders Gonzaga and Fresno State heading into second round action on Tuesday.
Widing has a share of the first round lead with Eduardo Carrete after both golfers fashioned two-under rounds of 69. Widing, who had six birdies on his card, made the turn at two-under and played his second nine at even to turn in his second consecutive 69.
