The Panthers have at least another week to ponder one of the biggest decisions facing any team in the NFL right now: Should unheralded Kyle Allen replace Cam Newton at quarterback?
Allen, arguably the most surprising player in the NFL this season, will remain the Panthers quarterback when they take on the 49ers at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday, Carolina coach Ron Rivera announced Monday.
The undrafted Allen has led the resurgent Panthers to four straight victories after Cam Newton was sidelined with a recurring foot injury in Week 2. With Carolina coming off a bye and Newton still rehabbing, there was a belief he might be ready to play this coming Sunday against San Francisco.
