SANTA CLARA — Kyle Shanahan used to sneak unnoticed into work early in the morning, a willing recluse burying himself in video tape.
“Mainly this time of year I’ve gone into the office in my sweats, shut the door, turned on the tape and came out for lunch and then to leave to go home,” the 49ers first-year head coach said of a previous life where he immersed himself on one side of the ball. “As a head coach, it’s a lot different.”

He went from offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles in 1997 to head coach of the Raiders in 1998 and remembers there not being enough hours in a day.
