Breaking Down Nose Tackle Earl Mitchell and His Fit with the 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers were historically bad against the run in 2016.

On Friday, general manager John Lynch made a move to address this glaring issue — signing veteran nose tackle Earl Mitchell to a four-year, $16.5 million deal.

NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo was among the first to report the news.

The 29-year-old Mitchell was released by the Miami Dolphins earlier this season. Thus, San Francisco was able to bring him in before NFL free agency officially starts on March 9.

One of the main reasons Miami released Mitchell was due to an injury-plagued and underwhelming 2016 season a year ago.
