Gerald Hodges is one of three players involved in a competition for the second inside linebacker spot opposite entrenched veteran NaVorro Bowman for the San Francisco 49ers. The other two players in the competition are Michael Wilhoite and Ray-Ray Armstrong. Apparently all three players will be receiving equal reps with the first team throughout OTAs.
While Wilhoite began last season as the second starter at inside linebacker, an ankle injury gave Hodges the opportunity he needed to show he belonged. After having been acquired by the 49ers via a trade in October, Hodges got the starting nod when Wilhoite went down and is now being given the opportunity to earn the starting spot for good.
