49ers sign ex-Dolphin DT to four-year deal

The 49ers have signed former Dolphins defense tackle Earl Mitchell, according to published reports.

The deal is reportedly worth $16 million, $5.5 million of which he will receive in the first year according to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.

The signing is the first significant one for new general manager John Lynch and first-year head coach Kyle Shanahan.

The 49ers have holes at almost every position, but their defense last season was historically bad and allowed a league-worst 406.4 yards and 30 points per game.
