The San Francisco 49ers have released running back Mike Davis, according to NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport. The 49ers are expected to sign 18 undrafted free agents to contracts, and with 73 players already on the roster, they needed one more spot to get to the 90-man limit.
The 49ers spent a fourth round pick on Davis back in 2015, but he never panned out. He missed most of his rookie year due to injury, and when he did play, he was ineffective. He rushed for 1.7 yards per carry on 35 attempts, which I believe was one of the lowest YPCs ever for that many attempts.
