Louisiana Tech’s Jeff Driskel became the newest entrant into the 49ers quarterback derby, when they selected him in the sixth round of Saturday’s draft.
Driskel is the fifth quarterback on a roster that also features, for now, Colin Kaepernick, Blaine Gabbert, Thad Lewis and Dylan Thompson.
“I know it will be a great landing spot for myself. I’m really excited about the pick,” Driskel said on a conference call.
Driskel had minimal contact with the 49ers in the pre-draft combine, including meeting “for a few minutes at the combine,” he said.
