Sod saga: Field issues resurface during 49ers’ first practice

One year after Jim Harbaugh pulled his team off the field because of poor conditions during a training-camp practice, the grass at Levi’s Stadium remains an issue.

The 49ers held their first training-camp practice at the one-year-old, $1.2 billion stadium tonight and some of the sod on the outside edges of the field came up in large chunks as players went through individual drills.

Wide receivers Torrey Smith and Jerome Simpson both lost their footing on the surface.
