Jim Tomsula is back from the football hinterlands.
The former 49ers head coach was hired as defensive line coach with Washington after taking a year off.
Washington announced the move Monday morning following a report of the development Sunday by Carol Maloney of NBC4.
Tomsula is not only back in the NFL, he’s back at a position he’s held the longest in his coaching career. Before he was the defensive line coach for the 49ers from 2007-2014, he coached that unit during stints in NFL Europe and college football.
Tomsula was promoted from 49ers defensive line coach to head coach in 2015 after the team parted ways with Jim Harbaugh and went 5-11 in his only season at the helm.
