WASHINGTON — Trade candidate Melvin Upton Jr. was not in Sunday's lineup, but as of just before a series finale at Nationals Park, the Padres outfielder was not heading to another team.
"This is just another day where he’s breathing," Padres manager Andy Green said Sunday morning. "I think there’s a lot swirling around him right now. Just felt like the right time to put him down, let him have a day to rest. He’s available off the bench. There’s, to my knowledge, nothing imminent at this moment, but we know what time of year this is, and everything remains fluid.
