Kirby Yates on Friday became the first Padres closer to record 27 saves before the All-Star break. That’s not the only aspect of his job that the 32-year-old right-hander takes seriously and certainly not the only job he has in a newly expanding portfolio.
Union-Tribune: You walked out last year to Bob Marley (“Could You Be Loved”). How do you go from that to Metallica (“Sad But True”)?
Yates: A couple of people tried to ask me to change it without asking me to change it. They mentioned a few things … and I kind of landed on that.
