Richard's woes undo fiery 1st frame for Padres

PHILADELPHIA -- The Padres' bullpen fared just fine in Game 1 without Brad Hand and Adam Cimber. Robbie Erlin and Phil Maton picked up the slack nicely. Robert Stock was OK, though his defense let him down.

But none of the three ever had a lead to work with.

Starter Clayton Richard coughed up an early four-run advantage and was tagged for seven runs over three innings as the Padres opened the second half with a disheartening 11-5 defeat.
