Padres tab Chacin for Opening Day

Chacin posted a 4.81 ERA in 34 appearances last season between the Braves and the Angels. He spent the previous seven years pitching in Colorado. Chacin hasn't pieced together a fully healthy campaign since that 2013 season, in which he posted a 3.47 ERA, while making 18 of his 31 starts in hitter-friendly Coors Field.

In three Spring Training appearances, Chacin owns a 3.86 ERA with 10 strikeouts over 9 1/3 innings. He missed a chunk of camp because of the World Baseball Classic, where he pitched for Team Venezuela.

Padres skipper Andy Green made the announcement during his pregame media session Tuesday.
