SAN DIEGO -- The Padres placed right-hander Erik Johnson on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow sprain Friday, retroactive to Thursday.
Right-hander Paul Clemens -- who was claimed off waivers from the Marlins on Tuesday -- was put on the active roster, and right-hander Jose Dominguez was called up from Triple-A El Paso. Additionally, left-hander Buddy Baumann was reinstated from the disabled list (lower back strain) and optioned to El Paso, while right-hander Cesar Vargas was transferred from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL.
The moves came on the heels of Thursday's trade of Fernando Rodney to the Marlins, as well as the struggles that Johnson has had in his brief time with the Padres.
