Locals turn in solid seasons in minors

San Diego is a hotbed for baseball with more than 150 former high school or college stars playing in the minor leagues.

A number of those had outstanding seasons. Here is a look — by position — at the best of the local players:

Catcher

Austin Wynns (Poway/Fresno State) and Garrett Stubbs (Torrey Pines/USC) jump out. Wynns hit .287 with six homers, 18 doubles and 34 RBIs in 80 games, finishing at Triple-A Norfolk in the Orioles system. Stubbs hit .304 with 10 homers, 22 doubles, 15 steals and 54 RBIs for the Astros at High-A Lancaster and Double-A Corpus Christi.
