Popovich unsure NBA should change intentional foul rules

MIAMI – Spurs coach Gregg Popovich suggested Tuesday the NBA should proceed with caution regarding discussions about whether rules regarding intentional fouling should change.

“I wouldn’t change anything unless someone comes up with a really wise, Solomon-like rule,” Popovich said.

Conversation about the “hack-a-player” strategy used so often by Popovich heated up last week after NBA commissioner Adam Silver said the league would look into making changes to the rules so the practice of intentionally fouling poor free throw shooters would be come to an end.

“I’m increasingly of the view that we will be looking to make some sort of change in that rule this summer,” Silver told USA Today.
