LOS ANGELES — Tied 3-3 and with all eyes on court 5, Manuel De Luis Lamelas lifted Saint Mary’s (6-9, 1-2 WCC) with the dramatic victory over LMU Saturday afternoon at the LMU Tennis Center.
The senior captured the first set 6-4, but dropped the next to find himself in a marathon three-setter.
Lamelas showed tremendous strength and stamina, overpowering Alex Bourgeois in the final set, 6-2.
“Manuel showed great heart and determination,” said Saint Mary’s head coach Greg Kennett. “He played really well and kicked his play into a higher gear in the third set.
