“I was just so excited that I couldn’t even get out my words,” Laney told Gannett New Jersey. “She was like, ‘Hello? Are you there?’ I wanted to scream, but I couldn’t because I’m sitting in a restaurant.”

The star of the Rutgers women’s basketball team, who averaged 10.9 points and seven rebounds per game as a four-year starter, was selected No. 17 in the WNBA Draft on Thursday night. She discovered the news while out to dinner with her boyfriend at Bahamas Breeze in Woodbridge.
