Here in the U.S. we’ve got athletes taking a knee, or saluting, or all other manner of protesting during the playing of our National Anthem prior to sporting events. But meanwhile, over in the New Zealand Mu0101ori Rugby League, pre-game traditions are much more dramatic and compelling.

The Maori, of course, are the people who brought us the Haka dance — the tribal ritual that has been used as a pregame intimidation tactic in ruby for teams over there from the national All-Blacks down to youth squads. Here is one of the better standoffs, where two teams literally get face to face, and a pair of players almost kiss.
