5 Reasons Why the 2001 Miami Hurricanes Were the Most Talented College Football Team Ever

In the argument for “Greatest College Football Team Ever,” the 2001 national champion Miami Hurricanes are always in the discussion. We made a case for the 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers as the GOAT, but this is not to say those Huskers were more talented than ’01 Miami.

Here are five reasons why we believe that ‘Canes team was the most talented college football team ever.

1. 17 players picked in first round of NFL draft

They are, in order:

  • 2002: Bryant McKinnie (7th), Jeremy Shockey (14th), Phillip Buchanon (17th), Ed Reed (24th), Mike Rumph (27th)
  • 2003: Andre Johnson (3rd), Jerome McDougle (15th), Willis McGahee (23rd), William Joseph (25th)
  • 2004: Sean Taylor (5th), Kellen Winslow II.
