WATCH: Memphis Player Gets Inside the Park Home Run on Grounder to Short

We use the term “inside the park home run” loosely here, but that’s essentially what Memphis’ Brandon Montgomery did against USF on Friday, in unique, spectacular fashion.

Up 3-1 in the fourth with a runner on second, Montgomery grounded on a fielder’s choice to the shortstop, who instead of throwing to first got the lead runner caught in a rundown. With the defense preocuppied, Montgomery easily advanced to second.

USF then meandered around the diamond after tagging out the lead runner, believing time had been called, allowing Montgomery to swipe third with little issue. As USF continued to lollygag, Montgomery broke for home, beating the throw and securing his “inside the park home run.
