U.S. OPEN CUP MATCH RECAP | Seattle Sounders FC 2, Portland Timbers 1

TUKWILA, Wash. – The Portland Timbers lost 2-1 to Seattle Sounders FC in a closely contested Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup fourth round match Tuesday evening at Starfire Sports Stadium.

Seattle's Aaron Kovar scored early for Sounders FC while Timbers forward Augustine Williams–one of 11 players signed to short-term contracts from T2 and one of five in the Portland starting XI–tied it up for Portland late in the first half. However, it was a second half penalty kick conversion from Seattle's Zach Mathers that proved to be the deciding goal of the match.
