Hoogerwerf’s Homer Forces Extra Innings, but LMU Outlasts the Pilots 6-4

PORTLAND, Ore. --- With Portland trailing by one in the bottom of the ninth inning, Ryan Hoogerwerf crushed a ball deep over the left field fence to tie it with a solo homer, but the Loyola Marymount Lions scored three in the 10th to claim a 6-4 win over the Pilots on Saturday night at Joe Etzel Field. Matt Kelly added a solo home run in the bottom of the 10th for Portland, but the Lions held on to win and stay alive in the race for a West Coast Conference title alive.

Hoogerwerf forced extras with his team-best seventh home run to lead off the final frame, and the blast was so deep that the LMU left fielder didn't move from his spot.
