Willie Stargell items, Honus Wagner card sell for six figures in auction

Memorabilia from late Pirates first baseman Willie Stargell sold for a combined $481,861 in an auction that ended Sunday morning.

In addition, bidding on a highly coveted 1909-11 T206 Honus Wagner baseball card closed at $609,294. The card has been referred to as “The Original Wagner” and is believed to be the first of its kind featured in media. A similar T206 card of the former Pirates star was auctioned in April 2015 for $1.32 million in online bidding.

SCP Auctions Inc. administered the online bidding.

Among the 20 Stargell items auctioned were the Hall of Famer’s 1979 National League MVP award, which went for $103,567, and his 1979 World Series ring, which closed at $82,853.
