Free agent starting pitcher Tyson Ross will sign with the Rangers for what appears to be one year and $6 million plus incentives.
The Pirates were connected to Ross earlier in the offseason, but then again, just about every team was, and the rumor mill ended up settling on the Rangers and Cubs (and, to lesser extent, the Nationals, who could have paired him with his brother Joe) as his main suitors. As a hard thrower with good ground-ball numbers, he would have been a good fit for the Pirates organization, assuming he would ultimately have fully recovered from the shoulder troubles that ruined his 2016 season.
