By Bill Brink / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Pirates lost to the Minnesota Twins in 13 innings, 4-3, on Joe Mauer’s tiebreaking home run.

Pirates starter Jeff Locke allowed three runs in the first inning, then combined with the Pirates’ relievers to shut down the Twins for the next 11. Lefty Antonio Bastardo entered in the 13th and left a slider up against the left-handed hitting Mauer, who lined it out to right for his first home run of the year.

The Pirates lost for the sixth time in seven games and fell to 0-6 in extra-inning games.
