ARLINGTON, Texas — Andrew McCutchen has a pretty simple explanation for why his strikeouts are up so far this season.
He’s just not hitting the ball.
“I'm getting pitched to, I'm getting pitches to hit, I'm just missing those pitches,” he said. “That's getting me in those two-strike holes a lot more than I've gotten into in the past.”
So far in 2016, McCutchen is striking out in 23.3 percent of his plate appearances, a career high. He had three strikeouts in the Pirates’ 9-1 win against the Rangers Friday night.
“I definitely shouldn't be striking out as much as I've been striking out,” McCutchen said.
