Foul ball hits fan in face during Pirates-Rays game

BRADENTON, Fla. — A man left LECOM Park in an ambulance and was transported to Blake Medical Center after being struck in the face by a foul ball in the eighth inning of Tuesday’s Pirates-Rays game.

He was wheeled out of the ballpark on a stretcher, holding a towel over the left side of his face.

The unnamed fan, a resident of Citrus County, Fla., was sitting directly behind the Pirates dugout when Tampa Bay Rays hitter Daniel Robertson smoked a line drive his way. The game halted briefly. Pirates president Frank Coonelly and others nearby helped until medics arrived.
