Williams is on a historic pace in the second half as the owner of a 0.72 ERA in eight starts since the break and a 0.66 mark over his past nine starts. He’ll put that run on the line vs. the Cards, who managed only three hits against him on Aug. 29.
Wainwright’s return to the rotation comes after he spent three and a half months on the disabled list with inflammation in his elbow. The 37-year-old threw 17 scoreless innings over six rehab appearances.
