It’s not often that a multiple time Silver Slugger, Gold Glover and league MVP winner can be labeled as “despised”. However, one Pittsburgh sportswriter did just that when he awarded Barry Bonds with the dishonor of “MDP”, Most Despised Pirate. Bonds’ time with the Pirates was surrounded by unfathomable athletic feats, individual awards and highlight after highlight. However, the things that could be said about Bonds by teammates, fans and media members are almost unanimously negative, leading me to writing this piece on why he does not belong in the Pirates Hall of Fame.
In the coming weeks, the club will be announcing their selections for this year’s Hall of Fame, and given that prior to Andrew McCutchen, he was the last Bucco to win an MVP award, some have suggested that Bonds be a part of this class.
