I suppose it’s fitting that the night the Pirate bats finally woke up came with A.J. Burnett on the mound. Burnett maintained his streak of allowing two runs or less in every start this season, but just now picked up his first win in his sixth game.
Really, that’s all it was. The offense came to life and Burnett had another strong outing. The top of the order – including Andrew McCutchen – was getting on base all night…and with so many opportunities (many of them coming before there were two outs), the Pirates were able to cash in on a bunch.
